Re: Oil filter housing seal/gasket ALT engine
Thanks for the reply Big F. But I did not mean the oil can but the breather housing that bolts to the engine block and holds the oil filter.
Then there is the water controlled oil cooler that bolts to that. ALT 2.0 Petrol engine.

side repeaters bad condensation...help
Why do my side repeaters always fill with bad condensation, have changed them once and they still do it.
Could it be a loose push fitting on the bulb fixing? Have tried sealing it but just the same. (2003 Passat saloon) They look shoddy like that.
Thanks bluealt

rubbing sound on front discs/Dont do what I did
 Dont laugh...Bought some aftermarket front brake calipers, ate copies, very good and I am pleased with them. Problem was I gave the caliper spring a tweak to tighten it a little to stop pad rattle....this pulled the caliper closer to the disc, and caused the disc to rub the inside of the calipe...

Re: What's My Dipstick Telling Me?
I am getting 35.3 mpg local, and 40+ on a run for my 2.0 20v saloon....very light footed though for this mpg. This with the 5w/40.
You only have 4 litres of oil in the engine, 5w/30 is too thin at temperature and would help it to burn oil more. (ALT engine)
Hope this helps.

That would be 5w/40 then fully synthetic...5w/30 is too thin for an ALT petrol engine.

B5.5...If you should get a blown stop lamp bulb
Hello all, Was caught out with a blown stop light bulb the other day, found that if you swap the two top bulbs around everything works a treat. reason being, the second bulb down only uses one of the double filoments and not the stop one. Petty post I know....but useful when you have no spare. Mines...

Air recirculation flap repair/delete..clicking noise stop!
Have found a permanent way of fixing the air recirculation flap for good, and its so easy. My car is a 2003 passat 2.0 20v, but the climatronic unit with air con is the same for most vw cars around that year. It was clicking and making all sorts of noises and driving me nuts. As follows. Make sure t...

Re: Ball joints size help
Your car with that vin no should be 16mm. I have just bought a set on ebay (Lemforder for £390,but much cheaper complete sets can be had for arount £130. My car a b5.5 has only done 56,000 from new hence I have stored the more expensive option. The 20mm joints were the older type which suprised me.
