Solid boost pipe?
So I’ve just blown my second lower boost pipe in the space of a few months. Car sounds like it’s got *no swearing* hay fever. Is anyone aware of a solid version available anywhere? I’ve rang darkside and they only sell the full intercooler kit which I don’t need, or want to pay for, for that matter ...

Re: Clutch and fly wheel
I've questioned the injector loom before, but haven't had a proper answer. I've had an issue where for no reason my starter motor sheerer a bolt a month or so ago hence why its a suspected fly wheel along with the vibration under load. It's also had new drive shafts and box mount checked so those ha...

Re: Clutch and fly wheel
Yeah yeah. He’s a vag specialist so probably changed more clutch’s and fly wheels than I’ve had hot dinners. Hopefully once this jobs out the way. Timing belt later in the year it’ll be good for while and see if I can hit the 300k mark with it.

Re: Clutch and fly wheel
Four years now. Bought it with 208k on it. Other than dropping a coolant seal at 70mph and dumping all the coolant out it’s only ever needed the usual stuff doing until this.
No reason to get rid of it to be honest. New clutch and fly wheel and Neville will be good for another 100k I reckon.

Re: Clutch and fly wheel
Yeah. Vibrates under heavy load. Mechanic seems to think the fly wheels locked but hasn’t rotated. But back end of last year the starter motor sheered a bolt for no reason but the fly wheel could have been the issue.
Cars on 249k so it’s probably due to be honest.

Re: Clutch and fly wheel
So I’ve been looking around and dark side seem to do clutch and fly wheel kits for around £400. However. GSF currently have some deals which work out cheaper for an LUK clutch and fly wheel. But before I order could someone lend and hand and let me know if these are the correct ones. Both say they’r...

Re: Clutch and fly wheel
Stand corrected. It’s an AVF engine code. I’ve looked around but fly wheels are about £300 alone for an LUK. What are people’s experience with sachs?

Clutch and fly wheel
Just had the Passat in for a service and been told it’s probably time for a new clutch and fly wheel and they suspect my dual mass is now a home made single mass fly wheel 😂 I’m expecting it to be a few hundred for the parts but ideally need to keep costs down if possible. Noticed on dark side that ...

Re: Starter motor
I can get a volt meter easy enough. But where abouts is the starter and I can see if some gentle persuasion will work first? I’m thinking the solenoid it’s self is just honked up as the engine bay isn’t the cleanest with all the miles I do.

Re: Starter motor
It’s a six speed. I’ve bumped it fine just now and took it for a run to see if it was potentially battery related but now the starter just sounds like it’s spinning in hope. Been told it’s the solenoid.
I’ve seen a unit on eBay but with regards to part numbers what should I be looking for?

Starter motor
Evening all. How easy is it to fit a new start motor for someone with very little mechanical knowledge? Mine just sits there whirring away. Been told it’s the solenoid. Usually I’d just let the lock garage I use sort it out but need it for work. Unless anyone around Newcastle is feeling friendly and...

Suspension arms
I'm sure this topic has been done to death, however I'm at work and cant find anything :D I need some new upper arms, both sides for its mot. What alternatives are out there other than lemforder or meyle? I've seen the ebay sets which claim to be oem standard but dubious as to whether this is true, ...

Re: The famous Mr Muscle method - turbos, advice needed plea
I could do with some advise on this. For the slightly mechanically inept among us. Mine has seemingly gone into limp mode a couple of times at higher revs when getting up to speed on the motor way. Local vag guy said to try either this or something like red ex or similar and go thrash the *no sweari...

Re: Injector or loom replacement?
To be honest its only a very slight vibration when you floor it. But it feels slightly underpowered. I'd use it as an excuse to stick some uprated injectors in, until i looked at the price

Injector or loom replacement?
Evening all. Just a quick one. Had Neville in for a good service a few weeks back and was informed it had a slight vibration under load which could possibly be an injector on the way out. Its a VW mechanic and i know he isn't just trying to rip me money, however i've heard the injector looms can thr...

Re: Better pads and disks
Some valid points to take in regarding the increase in size. Which is obvious is suppose. Do the models that come with 312mm disks run the same calipers as 288mm though? My thinking was i'd rather just run better quality disks and pads with the current set up rather than increase to 312mm via carrie...

Re: Better pads and disks
I can see peoples point regarding the increase in leverage. However, the benefits would be minimal surely due to the physical area of contact the pads are making with the disk being the same as previous on a 288mm disk? Would better quality pads and disks not make a better difference? I'm going off ...

Re: Better pads and disks
Plain disks? I'm presuming they're just better all rounders than drilled and grooved ones, especially at only 288mm??
Unless the pistons are upgraded though the increase in braking performance isn't huge. You're still getting the same surface area contact as you would with 288mm disks.

Better pads and disks
Afternoon all. I've opted against going for 312mm carriers on the dad mobile, unless the pistons are upgraded as well the results would be minimal at best. Instead i've decided to look at better disks and pads. I tend not to go mental around country roads all the time but do enjoy the odd blast. Wha...

Re: Couple of wheel issues
Cheers lads. I've got a heap of paper work from the previous owner and the bill for the bearing and the garage it was fitted at. I'll have to get back under and have another look. Although it sounds like a wheel bearing i'm not convinced because of the sound as it doesnt get louder the faster you go...

Couple of wheel issues
Evening all. Couple of quick ones, first off when turning left round a corner, i get a grinding sound but nothing when turning left. I had a quick look around the suspension arms etc and checked the disks, disk guard and all seems well, would i be right to assume its most likely a wheel bearing? The...

Re: Remap advice
To be honest i'm not sure i'd have the confidence to do it my self, even with the file sent to me. I've seen a few places that remap around the newcastle area. Namely Durham Remaps. I cant figure out if they're more on the expensive side because they live map them on a dyno or just because they can....

Luckily the egr was already removed by the previous owner. I'm still unsure what effect this has though? It's a 51 plate.
