Back after a sabbatical!

Hi guys, I'm back in a Passat! I've bought my mums old car. (Pics to follow) I thought (as did she) that it was a Tdi 130. However, when I went to insure it, I was informed that it is actually a 100! I checked the log book and sure enough, it's. 73Kw model. :( So the plan was to boost it and then dr...

Re: Gtiracers Essex B5 Tdi Wagon 180bhp

Throught my years of playing with Nissans the Dyno figures came up time and time again. And to be honest, the only figures I trust now are the ones they use at APT and Surrey Rolling Road (these are the two know of) and they use Dyno Dynamics. I have yet to see a car that make say 400bhp on a DD RRo...

I miss all my old cars for one reason or another. But the fave has to be my S14. Built not bought. have a look in the manual.

On the Nissan, it was a little cartridge that you could unclip/screw and slide out of the heater direction box thingy.

Re: Radweld et al

'Barrs Leaks' is the daddy.

The one that looks like Oxo cubes all mixed up in a littl bottle.

Used it on a rad that was leaking on the side seam and it lasted til I sold it and beyond (over 6 years!)

Re: Are VW's the new Alpha's?

If you look for one on Ebay (or on here) there are LOADS of them with issues relating to the locks/alarm/interior lights/windows not working or playing up. And on my way home today from selling mine yesterday I pulled up at the Dartford Tolls and Lo and behold a B5 Saloon in front of me. And how I l...

Re: Air vents Illumination?

Worst job ever! I had to change my vents as one was broken and one of the lights wasnt working. I wish I hadnt! It was a PITA of a job and I used OEM parts. But still, for some reason, the light is dimmer than the others. willy! It may be you havent put the plastic 'light carriers' back in...

Re: Brake pads arghhhh HELP please :-)

It took me an age to find out if I had the ATE calipers mate, let alone what size they were. Like the man says, try the ECP site with your reg. That might help. THen see what else they fit and go on ebay and find the parts cheaper. Discs can vary in price massively. And lets face it, a disc is a dis...

Yes, I read that. And if you had googled it, you would have seen that some testers themselves have said it may be a reason to turn the vehicle away.

Im just awake from a night shift and grouchy, so excuse me if it appears Im jumping down your throat!

Re: Wheel width and offset help??!

You'll get rubbing on the front on lock as you conmpress the spring (coming out of steep hills onto flat roads). Othe than that, should be fine. 225 all round that is. Drop it to a 215 on the fronts and you'll fair better. 225 is fine on the rear.

Re: Multiple questions from a new buyer!

I just googled it. Verying results! Seems it could as a minimum be a reason to refuse a test if the tester deems reaching over or across the car to test the belts isnt acceptable. The rear doors need to be checked for security as a minimum too. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot...

Re: Multiple questions from a new buyer!

My local specialist told me about the rear doors failing locked. Its a BIG job and they charge about 3 hours labour and dont even guarantee the door card being salvageable as they have to pull it back to get at the internals.

Not nice. Id budget at least £250 from a specialist.
