High idle 2.0 petrol - ideas?

it is up to 1500 rpm, not sure why. It is all in good tune. Has anyone got a spare airbox clip, one of the short ones (or a full set?) It could be upsetting the MAF by allowing a post filter air leak as one of the clips has disappeared. Anyone have any other ideas why I might have a high RPM? Thanks

Re: What's My Dipstick Telling Me?

Same dipstick in my '04. Marker # 1 is FULL; # 2 is OK; # 4 is OVERDUE. I too had long life oil when I got the car a few years back. I now ignore all that and do an annual oil and filter change using Castrol Edge. The engine no longer burns oil, which it used to on the £40+ recommended stuff from V...

Re: Climatronic, hot all the time

Ebay motor arrived, new ratchet 6mm spanner and new 6mm combo spanner arrived. Car was available for three hours today, so got stuck in. The nearest bolt came out easily with the ratchet spanner. I would suggest for the cost, it is an essential tool for this job. Second easiest bolt out, then the ha...

Re: Climatronic, hot all the time

Ordered the second hand motor off ebay, I cant afford £120 for the new one, I need four tyres too. Got into the footwell and after trying several spanners, found a 6mm and loosened the easiest to reach bolt. 1/4" ratchet + socket wont fit any of the bolts given the space. Ordered a 6mm ratchet...

Re: Climatronic, hot all the time

I took a look this morning, in the rain. The motor has a red operating wheel, this distinguishes it from other motors. No matter what extreme setting I tried on the climatronic, this motor did not move, so I guess it is faulty. It appears to be the one that costs £120 new, so I want to get the righ...

Re: Climatronic, hot all the time

Thanks mini-dub. My remaining concern is disconnecting the battery, it will be a first. Might loose the radio, I dont have the security code. And air bags worry me too.

Temp Control Flap - motor you mean? If so, I need a how to link to fix it. I am guessing glove box removal should give me enough room to work on it?

Re: Climatronic, hot all the time

Checked for codes, I get: 4F7 00; 4FA 00; 513; 000. In practice, it seems there is no temperature control, adjusting the temperature does not appear to alter vent out temperature, it is steady hot. Ironically, it seems a little cooler on AUTO HI. I can not get any cold air out on any temp set up, so...

Climatronic, hot all the time

Even when the controls are 'off', still getting hot air through the vents. And I mean, hot! Could this be the recirculating flap motor failing? What else can I check, are there codes displayed on the climatronic I can access? I dont have VAGcom, local VW want £60 to hook it up. The air con cooling ...

Re: Anyone recommend owt to take the smel out my leather sea

A good clean with a sponge soaked in Fairy wash up, dont soak the leather, just keep repeating the wash action. Then apply the best leather treatment I have found, I have tried loads over the years, this is the best: Ko.Cao.Line. Pronounced coachaline. Get from horse tack shops, saddlers. It is red,...

Re: torx security bit for the maf

I took the MAF off yesterday; used a pair of pliers on the edge of the Torx screw to wind it out, cut a slot in the head to refit. The MAF face appeared clean, so I left it alone and put it all back. Is there a gauze to clean in the housing?

Re: pd oil

I bought the specified oil (longlife) from VW showroom for the first oil change I did on the 2.0 petrol; the car was new to me and I was loving it. Next oil change after 8k miles, I used the Quantum 111 long life, about 30% cheaper. The engine was noticably louder, more tappets, but it stopped drink...

Re: Dropped the oil and found this!!!!

I dont know what the mains shells look like; can anyone confirm by the shape of the end of this, it appears to have a central probe. Is there a similar cut away at the other end of the strip? It looks a lot like a hose clip to me. I doubt it is a shell bearing from an engine that sounds normal when ...

I just had 4-way laser tracking done. £30 for 30 minutes work. Well worth it. Rear wheels within range, although offside toe in is not good, cant be corrected. Front wheels; one bad toe in and the other bad toe out. Now the steering is so light again.

Re: Keeping our Passats running smooth..

I have switched from Shell to the new Esso diesel in my TDI; seems to have more power. Until recently, I also put in a 'slug' of 2T oil, made it run silky smooth. I am now trialing 'Rhino diesel additive'. Find it via Google. Initial driver feedback is superb. It does everything the producer boasts;...

Re: Climatronic reading

This issue is on a Golf forum at present. The fake coolant temp sensors from China do not have the 059 919 501A code on the sensor collar. There may be other fakes out there too. Expect to pay about £20 or more for an item in a branded box. These are the usual culprit of poor tick over, erratic tic...

Re: B5.5 uneven rear tyre wear

Fitted new rear beam bushes at the local garage. He said it was a job I would have struggled with, he put it up high on a four post lift. £60 labour for both sides. He reckoned t did not need them. However, it does ride better now, and that occasional clonk that I could not trace has now gone. I ha...
