Re: What did you do to your Passat today?

Changed the cambelt.

The cambelt was out by a tooth from the previous change. They did a tipex and pray job.

She feels better and I managed to get a 0.0 degree set without adjusting the cam sprocket. The tolerance is -0.3 to +0.3.

Re: What did you do to your Passat today?

Started getting a slight kangaroo shudder when pulling away. Vibrations coming through the clutch pedal. Im guessing the flywheel.

*sigh*

Re: Name the 1st car you driven

Learned to drive in. A 306 tdi and my first car was a 68bhp 1994 1.5D 106.

Image

First fun driving experience was at 18 at thruxton race circuit on skid pan in a RWD, slick wheeled Ford Sierra. THAT was very fun. :D

Re: HELP !!! just put petrol in diesel car!!!

Dude, it was a mistake. :ymhug:

All you've done is put wrong fuel into the tank. It could have been something worse.

Chalk it up to experience and try to be more vigilant when filling up (as I'm sure you know).

I'm waiting for my first fuel error with a face palm.

Re: Yay. I found the knock source.

Absolutely. If there are cheap nasty kits, then people need to be aware, I'm just unsure about naming and shaming policies on this website and wanted to keep it clean. :D I knew they were a cheaper arm kit but being sold by a reputable company, I figured I'd give it a shot. I don't throw my car arou...

Who said they made the arms?? I'm quite aware they don't make the arms :hyst :hyst I'm afraid for £300 should have got better, have you tried ringing them on the number 01992 -766 936 maybe that still works :-? I merely stated that because I did not want to name them and say anything negative. Neu...

Re: Yay. I found the knock source.

It was RK components, BUT, they sold me the items and DID NOT manufacture them. I believe that they have changed their name. Their website, for weeks has been giving you an option to redirect for around 25 seconds. The website the kit number takes you to directly is A1 components, so I guess they're...

Re: Yay. I found the knock source.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm unsure of the inferior product manufacturer. I only know the seller name but I don't think naming them would help and it's probably against site rules. I do know that the lower arms given to me in the set were 20mm inserts to the hub, and my car was actually a 16mm i...

Yay. I found the knock source.

Well, as some of you may recall, I had an issue with a knock I couldn't locate. Well, the knock started to get severe and has moved to the other side of the car too. I had a friend jump into the car and brake/roll/brake down my drive. three of four lower control arms no longer have any rubber contac...

Agree. That looks too American.

It looks to me like a slight scirocco facelift on the front end.

It looks, if compared to a B5.5, like a step backward.

Re: What did you do to your Passat today?

Got my cambelt kit and water pump 2 days ago. Yesteday, my lock tools arrived and I bought coolant. So today, the only day the car is not in use for the next 4 weeks, I removed the front of the car and drained the old coolant. Happy days. Next I removed the fan and auxiliary belt. Auxiliary crank pu...

:ymhug: Cheers Karl.

Will have a look in a moment.

Timing is spot on, checked that area first. No smoke either. As soon as is started braking, the rear view was the first place I looked.

Cheers again buddy. Vagcom will be friday at earliest.

Is it limp mode?. How to reset?

Hi guys. This is the first F/I car I've owned, even if it is diesel. Whilst driving around for the past week, I've been driving in a spirited way. No problems though. Earlier, I was accelerating in 3rd gear up a slip road onto an A road. I didn't red line the car but 1st and 2nd were taken to 4k at ...

Not much to add to bs honest. I had a Golf VR6 and now have a pd 130 5.5.

I'm not sure but I don't think you will push past my passats power without lots of expensive mods.

I await correction though.

Yup. The car does work as a sedative lol. Get pulled over a lot at night when I drive about to settle them. Police like to know why I'm out at that time of night and where I'm going. Just one of those nights though. 1 went to sleep, the next woke up. Repeat. They do sleep if they're in my bed but I ...

Kids are a good source of no sleep. Gah!!.

So yesterday, I was up at 0430 with one of my 3. All under 38 months. Last night at about 9pm I crawled into my pit and welcomed the feeling of a slightly cool pillow and duvet. Bliss!. Around 10 minutes later, I'm just nodding off and the screaming starts. Fast forward through the night and im in a...

I started off sticking BP premium diesel in my wagon. Had about 10+ tanks of it. Then I decided to stick normal diesel in her. Didn't notice a difference really.

Re: Learned my lesson with budget tyres

Nope, the 3000's never failed on me and they wore fairly well. I used to drive everywhere with the loud pedal hard down all the time. No wheelspin when setting off down the 1/4 mile, just pulled.

I would buy a set in a heartbeat for the passat and rip the rainsports off. ;)

Re: Learned my lesson with budget tyres

I had Nexen 3000 on my golf. Those were/are the best tyres I've ever had, ever. They pulled me through slush, mud, ice, rain and dry roads. I was gutted when I wanted a new set and these were discontinued. I think they were considered a low/mid range budget too. I had a set of Goodyear Eagle F1's on...

It doesn't help with most of the part suppliers or parts in dealerships having moved their parts computers back into public restricted areas too.

When I had the Syncro, the only thing they got right when I ordered a complete service box, was the bill.

Sorry to put this to the top again. I've had a good check and pry bar played with everything that may have some give like mounts. Re: Why do dealers chance it?

If you look at a lot of trader websites, the 5.5 tdi with less than 130k usually sits around 3.5 - 4k. I went around a lot of traders looking for an Estate 5.5. A lot of them were low output, high milage for 3 - 4k. I found the one I have now for 4k with 119k on the clock. It had a new ticket, fuel ...

Re: Which passat is the best? B5?

I've owned a B5 saloon and now a 5.5 estate. There is one mutual thing that lets both these models down. The suspension. As far as I know, these are the only models to use 4 control arms on each front corner. I hate them with a passion. Other than that, I have to say there isn't a difference really ...
