When you say "no gears", does that mean it won't select them, or it won't move? Clutches don't usually fail over night.....................

Re: Are REVO maps any good?

Revo stage one maps are generic, doesn't matter who installs the map. Yes a check should be done before but won't detract from the fact that revo maps are spiky. Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk when i had my revo done, we spent an afternoon tweeking the settings, so to an extent, i got a cus...

Re: Are REVO maps any good?

Being the Channel Islands dealer for Revo, and having done over 120 re-maps, all I can say is that we've NEVER had a problem. That said, I've heard some horror stories about it being done where no pre re-map diagnostic check is made, which is a recipe for disaster, and so called "experienced te...

You might find a gearbox mount is getting a bit soft. I had this on an old Renault Laguna estate, and that was the cause.

Tired interior?

My B5 Passat's interior, although in perfectly good condition, was a bit dull. As I live in Jersey, finding a complete leather interior wasn't going to happen. After a poke round tinternet, I came across these guys http://www.autoleathers.co.uk. Got a complete set of pretty groovy seat covers in fai...

Re: Camchain tensioner and cambelt - 1.8t

1.8t has a cam belt, no "chain" involved...........Change the belt, the tensioner, and the waterpump whilst you're in there. I have no idea what aforementioned mechanic is talking about when he mentions chains, 'cos there ain't one!

1.8t every time. Easier to work on, and very tunable. Unless you value smoothness above economy / performance, it's the best way to go.

When [and if!] you do get them off, give the panel a good going over with a hair dryer to warm up the various bits of plastic. Warm plastic is less inclined to break!

Stick a gas analyser in the expansion bottle, they're usually pretty accurate.

Radio reception

I've got an aftermarket Sony single cd / radio in my '98 Passat, and the radio reception is awful. Anyone have any ideas how to improve it, and what set up is best for radio reception, bearing in mind that we don't have digital radio reception over here. Aerial is standard.

Re: Are the TDI 100 B5.5 any good?

PD engines are the dogs dangly bits. Pretty much indestructable, and a re-map can make a big difference......obscenely economical as well. Brilliant engines, capable of huge mileages, they're quite capable of doing 400, 000 miles without needing major work.

Try this [at your own risk] Put trolly jack on its side against the inside of the opposite wheel. Get an extremely stuout piece of wood [about 3 ft long]. Jack up until wood reaches opposite wheel...........................keep pumping..............

Re: new passat owner!

A re-map, good air box, and exhaust will probably be about £1k, and you should see another 40 ish bhp. After that, you're entering into a world of rapidly increasing expenditure for rapidly diminishing return...............
