Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

Yeah it seemed the clip hadn't bitten properly so took it off, was dusty so cleaned it out and refitted and made sure clicked. Seemed to do the job. But thats what happened to mine, like limp mode. If i turned off and on again it would come back but only for a short minute or too. I think its cus th...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before... FIXED NOW

Right well. Got a morning on the car. First of all. I bought a new camshaft position sensor which was the only fault code that i had. But i also went about changing the MAF as i knew that was also shot despite not throwing a code. I fitted the camshaft sensor - took about ten minutes, followed by th...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

My engine code is APU mate.

Only fault curently showing, but your right, have heard MAFs dont always throw up codes so i'll replace both out.

Anyone know how to do the camshaft sensor?

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

is changing out this sensor a DIY job or will it involve messing with the timing belt? Anyone know where i can find the sensor and how to change it? having had a thought, the idle, revs are controlled by timing so if the camshaft sensor is knackered and timing is acting on its own merit then it is g...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

received vagcom today, just need to borrow a laptop and i can get some codes up. both good ideas though, coolant temp sensor was on list to change out when first started. Not sure about the pipes too and from turbo, all look to be sealed and no cracks but guess take them off and test them/replace as...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

well got the original MAF back on and low and behold running better again, still lumpy but massive missfire so seems i was sold a dodgy MAF straight out the box. Checked the pipe you were talking about but no cracks etc so think im ok - i have a feeling that one of my coil packs might be packing up ...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

Is yours fully sorted now you've done all this or are there still issues? It would have to be really bad luck to have gotten a duff MAF straight out the box from GSF, although, i have heard it does happen. Got to wait for vag-com i think and get my codes read and posted up. Guess my weekend may be s...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

Hi, right i've spent most of the afternoon and evening under the hood. I did get an offer of someone to help me with vag-com (thanks desertstorm) but unfortunately when i tried to get to see him the car refused to run properly and i wasn't going to risk driving to further any damage. I have ordered ...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

did a lot of research on the MAF - it was playing up and rather than replace it at a cost of however much alot of people had tried a cleaning method - i found a fair few threads about it on here and on passatworld and followed it to the letter, its been fine for 2 months since, but if it was buggere...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

i gave the TB a good clean about 2 months ago with carb cleaner, it was positively gleaming afterwards and to be honest not that dirty to begin with but i had a lumpy idle and so i cleaned that and the MAF with electrical and it sorted the problems. Reassembled and all was good. NEver did anything t...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

Would MAF or Coil Pack cause the idle issue do you think? i thought so maybe and i know the MAF on car is the OE item from new as far as i can see its never been replaced and nothing in paperwork so its something i thought of yes. I am therefore picking up a new maf from GSF - going for the cheap on...

Re: 1.8t - strange problem not seen before!

bump for today.

seems to be getting progressively worse at lower revs/gears however get it above 3k and it runs better - bit hesitant still but ok. Lower gears and lower revs lurchy, jerky and getting to be a bit of a ballache not knowing whats wrong!

Re: Revving/Idle Issue

Not sure but had a look and can't see any thing to do with throttle that would be causing the issue. I've uploaded some video of it. Forgive camera workmanship.
