Re: ride comfort and voice control

Un fortunately this trend for hard "sporty" rides can be applied to the huge majority of modern cars in general. Larger wheels/low profiles are also supposed to look better. Encouraged by favourable reviews in the motoring press which report a test track circuit a half second faster. Utter...

rattles.....again

My B7 saloon has developed an annoying buzz/rattle from somewhere behind the rear seats. I am guessing this is probably the parcel shelf rather than the tailgate, must be one or the other. Anyone else had this - and how to fix? BTW my previous B5.5 I had for 8 years with no hint of a squeak, rattle,...

rarest B7 in the UK?

I have a 1.8TSI SE in a cashmere wrap. (Gasp! Yes, petrol!) Do I own the rarest B7 in the UK?

Seriously, I'd love to know how many petrol B7's have been sold in this country. Have you ever seen/heard of one? Must be as rare as hen's teeth.

Re: B7 heater matrix problems

Just got car back from first service at dealers. They said there are known faults with heater behaving oddly. Fixed by software update.

Re: B7 heater matrix problems

Yes, had that also. Seems to have a mind of it's own.

So that makes five of us! Anyone else with misbehaving heater controls please post - the more people reporting a fault, the more likely VW will take notice.

Re: B7 heater matrix problems

There is definitely something odd about this darned heater. Today, I had temp control knob set to max heat. After about 20 minutes I felt too warm, so turned it down to cool. 10 minutes later, I was starting to sweat, still being blasted with hot air. So I turned air flow position knob (screen, face...

Re: e-brake with manual transmission

My original question was to find out how many people always leave car in gear when parked! Seems most do, so thanks for responses. Personally, I find the system works exactly as it should - for now! As some have commented, I can only hope that it continues to do so in years to come, and shudder to t...

e-brake with manual transmission

This is directed at all those with above, not only B7's. I am curious as to how confident you are in the safe operation of the E-parking brake. Specifically, how many of you folk always leave the car in gear when parked? I am aware that this is recommended in the manual, but to my mind this indicate...

Re: B7 heater matrix problems

It does seem that the heater takes longer than my old B5.5 before I get a decent blast of warm air. I am wondering if perhaps full output is not directed to the heater until the engine reaches normal working temperature?

are diesel engines THAT good?

Doesn't anybody buy petrol powered passats any more? I ask because i am thinking of replacing my present '53 plate petrol 2 litre 20v later in the year. A quick online search for nearly new petrol version passats revealed only about 8 in the entire UK - the nearest to me being 140 miles away! I can ...

Re: very high engine oil consumption

Stupid question maybe but is it a turbo or NA? If it's a turbo then I would guess it was the turbo oil seals. If it's NA then the only place that oil could be getting into the exhaust post combustion (and therefore not being burnt) is the exhaust valve stems/oil seals that I can think of. If it is ...

Re: very high engine oil consumption

"If it's not leaking & your not burning it... where's it going?" My thoughts exactly - where the hell IS it going??? To repeat, strong smell of UNBURNT oil. No pools of oil under engine, just a few drops from under the exhaust near rear offside wheel. NO blue smoke from exhaust, NO sme...

Re: very high engine oil consumption

Hi ruffday - do you think this is normal for these engines? How much oil does your car use? Am I right in thinking if there was serious oil contamination of the exhaust system, then the cat would fail, resulting in emmisions/MOT failure?

very high engine oil consumption

B5.5 2.0litre petrol 20v model, '53 plate. Owned from nearly new. Never driven hard, regular servicing by VW., now covered only 45K miles. When the car was less than 3 years old, at 20K miles, engine oil consumption suddenley shot through theroof, from negligible up to one litre every 1500 miles. Ch...
