2x B5 1.8 20v 1x B5.5 1.8t And now a B5 1.9tdi And I still maintain that they are the best cheap cars you could spend your money on, my latest B5 cost sub £500, has 220k on it, has had the rear exhaust box chopped/rusted off and a side exit fitted, the bonnet catch sheared off and the bonnet is hel...

Re: 'Stiff' section of steering when the cars first started?
Check the pulleys, are they V belt ones or multi rib belt types? I had this on my mk2 for ages, swapped the v belt pulleys for mk3 golf multi rib ones and the belt grips well and got rid of the problem (then I ditched the pas all together for a manual rack but that's besides the point [emoji38] ) Se...

I read that above, but what do you Consider fine? The 2e should be around 850rpm idle.

Re: Vibration after clutch change
Rule out the obvious, was the clutch carefully and properly centered when fitted? Will make no difference, the only reason you need to centre the clutch plate is to get the gearbox on. Once the clutch is operated and the plates separate it will self centre anyway. If it was miles out you wouldn't g...

Brand new ones are ok, the plastic gets brittle with time, I found my new one was VERY flexable compared to the old one

Re: B4 2l auto high idle
[emoji38] good point!
Not uncommon for older autos to idle higher when the drag of the transmission trying to pull the car foward isn't engaged.
2k does seem high though, what's it sit at when it in neutral or park? Above 1000?

Re: can i use the ecu of a mk4 golf in a b4 passat?
It won't matter, it's a different generation of car, engine, management, diagnostics etc. That ECU stands 0 chance of running that enigine without having its data wiped and replaced with that of the b4's. Even then, there will be sensors on the mk4 the b4 doesn't have, and the ECU wiring will be com...

Re: HELP !!!
If you really want to convert the car you have, get the 1.8t engine, loom, ecu, clocks, locks, keys, down pipe, intercooler, pipework etc. But I the real world you won't do it. You'd be mad to. Far better to sell the 1.8 and buy a 1.8t. There's just too much to do to convert. And even more bonkers i...

Re: Cruise control fitting HELP QUICK
Your not matching up the wires to any other cables, they are being terminated into pin out locations, the colour of the insulation is about as relevant as the day of the week to this process.
Are they all black?

Re: Will they rub???
You would have been fine, the wheels will camber in slightly as the ride height was dropped, so would have cleared nicely. I remember first fitting my A8's to my old b5, they stuck out miles when the car was in the air, once it was down though I found I needed spacers to get them sitting nicely :) S...

Re: Cruise control fitting HELP QUICK
Most of the Kufatec kits come with all black wires with a small print on them to say where they go, a pin number, or a few letters for a location etc.

That poor splitter went through some grief, was on your car when you sold it, I took if off in 2 pieces, repaired it, the wife broke it, I repaired it again, then smashed it again [emoji38] http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/01/df81337bb500f111cc30315caf1b3c03.jpg http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15...

Well, after over a year without a Passat around, no. 4 has landed. Bought today to supliment my mk2 over winter while I do some jobs on it and to be the daily next year to save the golf for fun. It's a very unimpressive b5 tdi sport, 98' model, AFN Under the bonnet (which as it happens is held down ...

Re: Brake pad warning
The loom from the arch to the brakes splits inside quite often. Easy solution is to pop the grommet out in the wheel arch and behind it is the plug where the loom joins, disconnect the plug, cut the plug off from the brakes loom, join the tails together as close to the plug as possible, and plug it ...
