Re: steering wheel options

I don't think he is toon. I've got rid of my Passat now but driving about in a t4! The steering wheel is buggered. Think he used to work at Bentley doing their steering wheels?! Or something like that. Only charged about £20-30 a wheel too. Might send him a pm.

Re: Automatic gearbox prob

yeah both of the gearboxes were buggered and changing the fluid was a shot in the dark. thing i'm trying to say is u can waste ur money on having things replaced like the fluid or have a un-known 2nd hand box on and still be no better off. i'd have the box re-con'd but u then have to weigh up whethe...

Re: Automatic gearbox prob

i had a ery autobox on my passat that slipped all over the place. one thing u dont say is if it slips in the forward gears. mainly on the motorway in 5th. coast at 70mph come of the accelerator and then back on it firmly and watch the rev counter and listen. if it slips there and in reverse i'd say ...

Re: rear callipers

What were the pads and discs like? We're they completely shot? U may have a seized caliper like I did. I remounted the caliper on the bracket with the pads and discs removed and then tried the tool. They can be quite diddly if u have never done one before.

Re: ABS warning and exclamation mark warning light

Sounds like front sensor is out of zone. U had any cv joint work or wheel bearing work done recently? Most likely a dirty ring (stop sniggering) on the cv joint or sensor out. Shame u can't scan it as this may show a faulty abs sensor.

Well I was at Karl's on Saturday morn trying to trace my limp mode problem and asked him about the tensioner. Mine bobbles about but it's ok. Karl said if its bouncing around a lot then clutch pulley on the alternator. Yeah the air con is best if I blast it on everynow and then. Like the man above s...

Re: Expert opinio needed! CV secure bolt snap on today!

Sounds like your mechanic used to much force/pressure on the hub bolt. Yes they are meant to be tight but if he used an industrial strength impact wrench and tightened to about 300nms of torque the bolt would stand no chance. Can you upload a picture? I'd talk to your mechanic who did it and ask him...

Re: Alternator Workshop

the battery should hold 13v with the engine off. When the engine is running it should be 13.5-14.5v. If ur only getting 12.2v then I'd question the alternator. Check connections first though, live and neutral. Also check neutral connection from battery to chassis but to be honest I think ur alternat...

Re: my first passat by rob major aged 42 and a half

So it's an AJM. I was right so what do I win?
Yeah the AJM does have a tendency to use coolant and blow its head so keep an eye on the coolant as this would be an indication of something going wrong. Mine, luckily, is the atj which isn't too bad on the coolant/head.

100k toon? I'd say halve that. My gear box is gone and slips and mine was on 100k. The oil that came out was as black as tar. Gearbox specialist said it needs to be done every two years to a maximum of three. Basically the more u do it the better it is, but like engine oil I suppose. Half the battle...

Re: tighten handbrake

First thing I would check is whether the handbrake is doing anything at all. Chock front wheels and pop him up in the air. Spin rear wheel with handbrake off. If it spins good. If it doesn't move then check the caliper to see if its released. As said above they suffer from the springed release mech ...

Re: tighten handbrake

What is ur main reason for tightening the handbrake smoker? Only ask as my sister has an Ibiza fr and its prone to having sticky calipers making u think it needs adjusting. VW/seat/Audi have done a helper spring mod to fully release the caliper. I'll post a link as it may help.

Yeah clutch fluid is brake fluid from the brake reservoir. Dot 4. R u sure its oil based? Only ask as someone usually pops up come summery weather as the air con is turned on and u get condensation dripping down making it look like the cars got a leak. It could also be windscreen washer fluid. But i...

Re: Buying a car as a gift advice?

I just bought a freelander but it was under my moms name so just put her name in the new keepers box and did a rough signature. This is probably frowned upon by some though. U can if u want things is slap it in ur name but u will then have to change it again adding to former keepers number.
