Exactly the same when you engage the clutch pedal, Car has hundred thousand miles on it and a full service history. Its only the 100 bhp engine so hasnt got masses of torque going through it!. What are the symptoms of a failing dmf? I seem to have a deep knocking sound when the car is sat idling.

This one is completley different to a normal switch,its mounted on top of the box and is recessed into the gearbox and is held in with a large steel clip. access is very tight and you cant even see it.If it was a normal type switch then that would be no problem -As you say a 22mm spanner, job done, ...

I know its located on top of of the gearbox, but there dosent seem to be any room to get the old one out.

Thats the same problem i have, mine is a late model b5.5 but i am going for a remap soon so will do it at the same time and have it mapped out .Then i can fit my allard kit which has been sat on my desk for a while now. I think you can have the egr written out of your ecu without having a remap done...

I dont think vw have made a bad engine really, You gotta weigh up how much car is and how much you gonna use it , versus the cost of the rfl! oh and the cost of the fuel. Either way you gonna get shafted!!
