Re: Phillips extreme 130% vs osram night breakers

Are both not designed for reflector headlights?? I had night breakers in mine and was far from impresses until I moved them into the high beam reflector housing. http://www.carlightblog.com/2013/11/07/comprehensive-tips-using-the-night-breaker-unlimited-the-right-way/ This Osram artical pretty much...

Re: Need help on headlight bulb upgrade please.

Your B7 clear fronted reflectors should give much better results than in the B6 projectors when upgrade halogen bulbs are fitted. I noticed this after fitting nightbreaker unlimited in my old B5.5 (projector) and my daughters Polo 9N (clear reflectors) This Osram news artical basicaly says this will...

Re: poor economy what could it be?

Where abouts are you? North or south? I've noticed weather forcasts for northern Englad have been chilly of late. Now autumn is setting in and air temps are dropping especially in the morning and eve when we tend to drive to/from work it will start to have an impact on diesel MPG. I've seen 10mpg di...

Re: rub strips can they be removed?

straight swap.
Never removed side strips but I think they are just clipped on.
The bumper ones are cliped but also have a plastic rivet pin holding them on so you need to take bumper off to get access behind to remove the pins

Re: black wrap roof on a silver estate

Not a fan of wrap, personally if I was sure on the black roof I'd have it in paint.
Recon You will get fine swirl marks develop in a gloss wrap but will not be able to polish them out the same. I guess a satin or matt wrap would hide them. Have no experience with wrap, just my thoughts.

The factory fitted tinted glass is solar reflective. Fitted to my B5.5 est I can definitely say it makes the car more comfortable in hot sunny weather compared to previouse 5.5 that was without.

Re: Coolant temperature?

As above, Changed my thermostat when mine was running around 78degs. It runs at 90 now but no real difference on MPG. Ambient air temp and humidity seem to be able to make a huge difference at times. I think as long as your above 70 degs probably not worth worrying about. This is probably why the da...

Re: First time DIY car service. Advice for tool please.

There are generaly two levels of annual service, commonly refered to as minor and major. A minor service is pretty much just oil and oil filter and maybe pollen filter. A major service is oil, oil filter, fuel filter air filter and spark plugs and pollen filter. These services are carried out altern...

Re: First time DIY car service. Advice for tool please.

The oil filter socket correct for original smooth topped filters is 74mm with 14 flats, about 10 squid on ebay. As Gaz has suggested the use of the larger option filter is a good idea, I know Hengst do one for sure. They have a slotted nipple on the end so you can just use the shaft of a screw drive...

Re: I keep twisting my knob

Like you said, unclip the gator from the center and lift it up, if the steel crimp clip is missing you should just be able to pull your knob right off ( :p) If this is the case try re positioning it, you can use a cable tie in place of the metal crimp clip, it only holds the split ends of the knob i...

17" or 18" - lower or not lower?

I have been thinking about wheels for my sport wagen for ages after Fitting one side with my mates 18" rocco wheels. Must admit they looked pretty cool and suited the B5.5 well. would need spacers to get the correct offset. I'm a bit nervous as I know VW removed sport suspension if the car was ...

Echoing Karl, the best way to tune a mk1 golf GTi suspension was to retain standard springs but fit the 'stiffest' shocks you could, improving body roll but retaining the road going ability, uprated eibach springs with Koni shocks was said to be a tooth ratling experience on the road but great on a ...

Sure they only fit in one way, the internal hole is a little bigger on one end, if it was upside down it would not slide all the way onto the 'core' and you would not be able to fully screw it in.
