Splicing pernanent live via relay on OBD port.

Ok, heres the idea, I think it looks simple and feasible enough.
Im going to put a dual OBD splitter in the T5. Im going to have either a bluetooth obd adpter or a USB one permanently plugged in and set up into the Eonon head unit.
If I dont mod the wiring there will always be a small albeit permanent drain on the battery.

A quick look at the pinout for 16 pin OBD looks like taking the wire for pin 16 via a relay triggered by a switched live should do it.
Anyone ever done this?
Im also considering running a seperate tablet as a monitor with torque pro instead of putting in extra gauges, and doubling it up with something like this for a rearview camera :
