Adhesive/Glue

evening chaps!
got a couple of questions about adhesives/glue...
bought my self a B5 not long back and it came with some weird glue adhesive rubbish above the centre vents on the dash (guessing it was a mount for sat nav or something?)
also the plates are held on with adhesive glue strips and i need to remove them to apply my new pressed plates ive bought.
does anyone have a tips or products to use to remove both which wont damage the dash or plate surrounds?
