Wheel Width

I have just bought myself a 2015 GT Tdi Estate. I have had conflicting advice on wheel width I can run. I would ideally like to run the rim lip flush with the arch. I know size can vary when et's are involved but can anyone give me answers? I am looking either 18's or 19's, not sure best option yet.
