Ok i thought it best to put this in related rather than the B6 page, the 1.9 is used in most of the VAG range
We all know the 1.9BXE isnt great, the BKC also suffers
Ive replaced/had this issue come in to my VAG indy garage 9 times since mid Jan this year, not a huge number, but in 15yrs NEVER had a mk4 TDI do this, so the numbers are high in that respect , some werent repaired and were sold by there owners, so i cant really comment
Ok the list ive done is 57 Plate A3 155K (2K on solid flywheel) Cylinder 3 rod smashed, hole in the block, crank knackered
VW Golf 2008 08 Plate, 103K one lady owner, FSH, crack to block on cylinder 3, never stripped it so have no pictures at all
VW Passat B6 58 Plate 90K tapping/knocking noise, failed bigend on cylinder 3 picked up on crank, engine replaced with a BKC (mine)
VW golf 54 Plate, cylinder 1 bigend cap snapped off, rod bent, hole in front of block, cylinder 3 one biend bolt head snapped off, 2 holes in rear of block, this is currently being rebuilt with new pistons, forged rods
VW Golf 58 plate, cylinder 3 rod let go, cracked block, even cracked the gearbox case, both replaced
