how much do recovery people make

right guys you all know my situation at the moment 
on my travels today i spotted a recovery truck for sale resonable price aswell with winch ramps etc but just wondered if i could make a go of it myself , those that the police call out must make a small fortune picking cars up that have been involved in accidents etc or just collecting cars for people . does anyone know people in the buisness or where to start .
