Refitting original gamma unit, USB alternative to cd changer

Hi,
My B5 has got some super duper flippy touchy screen headunit, me don't like it.
Am going to stick the original back in today, but have got a couple of questions.
Car has got an iPod cable and an aux in cable, I know iPod won't work but I've seen people with aux in and the gamma unit or am I just imagining things?
Also main question, again something I believe I saw in here but can't find. I do not have and don't particularly want a cd changer, but I've seen a replacement which is little box in glovebox which plugs into the headunit and then a UsB full of music can be plugged into it, acting as the cd changer.
Again am I just imagining things?
Thanks,
Dom
