Fitting b5.5 Handbrake onto a B5 to fit a B5.5 Console

Post by tristan »

After trying to fit a new center console from a B5.5 into my B5 wqagen i found i needed to get a new handbrake fitted as they are in a different place on the B5.5 found a nice black leather one in my local breakers, handed over the cash and started to strip down my car.

i cant believe how dirty it had got where the hand brake is, but after a good hoovering and clean up the area was ready to fit the new handbrake. a B5 hand brake only has 2 bolts, when looking at the new B5.5 one it has 3 bolts, but on closer looking the cars already have 3 bolts so the handbrake just basicly bolts straight on.

this pic shows the handbrake all fitted and working great, but i do have to say it was a little fun trying to get the handbrake cables into the locating holes. but ten mins of swearing soon sorted that out.

the only other problem with fitting this handbrake and center console is. what to do with the VAG COM cable. as on a B5.5 it is near the steering wheel and not near the hand brake. so i have moved the lead to under the gear stick so it can be easily accessed. not sure about the petrol flap switch yet but once the console is fitted and i have found a solution i will psot images.
