REAR SHOCKS

Not quite sure where this shoud be posted..
But i need some help ASAP on this..

I have a B5 TDI SE90 1998
I am getting my 40mm springs fitted tuesday,i also wanted to fit new rear shocks as i think mine could do with replacing (two reasons,i carry heavy tools in the boot for work and also amps and guitars as im in a band)

Now what i was thinking was is it possible to fit the estate shocks to a saloon?
reason i want to this as im guessing they are stiffer and ment to take more wieght? yes/no??

So can this be done,and will the take more wieght and be stiffer??
