Engine shake on hot start

I have a 2006 B6 Estate 2l 140 bhp with 130k, which starts normally when cold but more often than not when hot after a stop for example, the engine starts but can shake quite violently. In every other regard the car drives and sounds as good as it's been since purchase in 2006. I've concluded from my varied "googling" that there could be a number of possible "fixes", although plausible involve fairly expensive "suck it and see" replacements even if you do the job yourself!
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has experienced this issue and how it was fixed would be good to know!
