MOT Failed but not too bad I hope....

So, my £160 bargain just failed its MOT. But not too bad as long as I can get the emissions down. It has a blow from the join in front of the catalytic converter (just an advisory) so I'm going to get that welded, wanted to remove the cat but figure it should help the emissions not make them worse??? Unless you all know any different??
It also failed on front anti roll bar links (already bought) and this is the confusing bit.... Steering rack gaiter? I assume the tester means cv gaiter? But I'll ring tomorrow and ask him, it's just when I search online it says left and right rack gaiter? so assuming these are the same as cv gaiters.
Advice would be handy folks....
Fingers crossed a thorough service too will get the emissions down.....
