can i use the ecu of a mk4 golf in a b4 passat?

Just wondering as I have a donor mk4 golf that has been sitting since mid october at work where the mot and everything has expired...looks like the owner has abandoned the car. Not sure how long it has to sit before I can contact VOSA..anyway are the electronics interchangeable? Looks like the engine in the mk4 is a 2.0 which is the same as my B4 estate....want to really get the B4 back on the road and use it for another year..
On the other hand is there an immobiliser defeat system that can be installed??
