How hard is this too take off?

In light of recent screw ups I've the chance to take the manifold off, as I'm replacing the EGR valve. Got a look inside the pipe to find this :shock:

Its about 5mm thick an its rock hard... I was expecting sludge similar to what I found on the L bend but not stuff that's gona have to be chiselled off lol Anyone share any light on whats needed to take it off and how to go about cleaning it because its obviously affecting performance, the holes that size for a reason lol.
