K&N panel air filters

I need a new air filter and was thinking about getting a K&N panel filter :-s

I only have a 1.6 (100 BHP) so would my car benefit from fitting one?

I dont really want to get one if my fuel consumption goes up as im only getting 21/22 MPG as it is :sad:

Is there any change in engine note aswell?
