I've got a few (OEM VW) Metal Pins to replace the plastic ones with and the instruction I've found so far are as follows;
- Rotate pin 90 degrees so that the little dot on the top points to the rear of the car
- Pull pin straight off, wiggle slightly if necessary to loosen it
- Push new pin on, rotate 90 degrees to lock in place.
