cheap alternative to remap? "in-line tuning chip"?

I found this item on eBay - (from mrmcbuk)

Has anyone any experience? I'm thinking of fitting it to my 115BHP PD engine in my Sharan. I'd like a little more performance (more like I get from my 130BHP Passat).
£25 is very little to lose if it doesn't work. But the main attraction for me is that apparently the ECU doesn't get interfered with.

I'd be particularly keen t o hear if anyone has tried ine and found that it caused problems (though any problems presumably should disappear once it has been removed).
