Passat 2.0 Petrol peoples honest opinions

Right folks. My Dad has owned a few passats and so have a few other family members but they have all been PD engined ones.
I might be getting another Passat to add to fleet
pending test drive etc Just wanted peoples honest opinion on the 2.0 petrol engine. What MPG do you get in the real world. Whats the power like. Is it a nice quite refined engine?
I've seen the tax is £270 a year which is a bit steep
