Climatronic, hot all the time

Even when the controls are 'off', still getting hot air through the vents. And I mean, hot! Could this be the recirculating flap motor failing? What else can I check, are there codes displayed on the climatronic I can access? I dont have VAGcom, local VW want £60 to hook it up. The air con cooling has become almost non existent, I last had it recharged about two years ago.
