temp sensor help needed asap

hi guys basically got told the car needed a temp sensor so went on ebay got 1 was green top and said it was for my engine code awx is it took my old 1 out and my old 1 was black and when you out them together the green 1 was a bit shorter also i broke the tip on the plug so ive had 2 glue that back in i no not exactly ideal but didnt no what else to do the plug is in solid and in as far as it will go could it be the plug or is the sensor wrong as i took it for a drive temp gauge got upto half but the climatronic still reads 68-71 im absolutly broke and reslly need help guys
