should I buy a b5.5 est with 2.0 petrol engine

Hi,
My first time posting on the forum. I've been so impressed with the info available on the forum and I think I have decided on a b5.5 estate, highline 2.0 petrol manual. This is to replace my mk4 golf that I've had for 8 years. I have put down A deposit that's refundable and will view the car tomorrow. I only do about 10k a year between me and the other half. Lots of short journeys, its 1 owner with 96k. So am I buying the right car? I'm figuring the 2.0 whilst boring is the most simple and reliable unit for this type of situation. I am a bit worried about what mpg to expect... any info or opinions would be great.
