My B5.5 and I.. In it for the long haul...

Post by MiniMental »

Howdy howdy howdy...

In light of my obsession with this car, I've now made the decision I'm gonna keep it forever... so I'm gonna use this thread to try gradually add/document all the stuff I do to my car from now on, a bit like a diary...

The "Done" List stands at currently,

New DMF and LUK clutch (Aug 16)
Four new Michelin cross climates (Aug 16)
New, revised pollen filter housing
New disks and pads all round
New front suspension
New, bigger sump plug....
GGB knackered gearbox replaced with FHN one (Sept 16)
New radiator (Dec 14)
Aircon recharge (Aug 16)
Front brake refurb
New cv joints
Restored headlights and LED H7 Upgrade
Brake light switch
Coolant temp sensor
Silicone turbo-out boost hose
new trims, covers and caps under bonnet
Plenum drain valves removed
New windscreen
All new filters and three oil changes (over the three years)
Exhaust hangers
Mirror glasses
All LeD interior/number plate light upgrade
Coolant change
Brake fluid change
Clutch slave cylinder
Window regulators (front)
EGR "making better" plate
Aux belt and AC belt
Alternator pulley
New Camshaft kit/Timing belt kit/waterpump/ thermostat/coolant
Reverse Camera
Hard wired dash cam
Double din DVD headunit
New heated mirror glasses
Blacksmoke Map
Clutch Spigot/Pilot Bearing Changed
New Door Locks (still not working properly though)
New battery (Feb 18)
Four new glow plugs (Feb 18)
LED tails installed
Four “New” injectors
Rear discs, pads and calipers (Sept 2018)
New front pads (March 2019)

Still on the list:

Bodywork tidy up/paint repair and restore
Shock absorbers, springs and bushes
Wheel bearings (not going but will do before they go)
Front wings (usual VWP sponge rust issue)
Front and rear bumper (seen better days)
Braided brake lines
All clips screws and fasteners that I can see
Cleanup and paint all undercarriage metal work such as ARB, subframe, Rear axle, calipers carriers etc etc etc.
Door lock investigation (All Four)
New Undertray
Entire interior replaced with a V6 Sport Heated Black/Grey half leather set. Working heated seats and cruise control Much nicer place to be.

Engine: (Possibly)
Turbo back stainless system (looking through options)
Might do a preventative head rebuild and bottom ends/top ends/rings within the next 24 months if I get my Sunday car bought next year.... (BOUGHT SEPTEMBER 2017 ;) )

That's about where it sits ATM... I do all work myself on my drive (no garage or workshop yet)

I have a relatively substantial tool set which is growing all the time (one of the perks of this car), as soon as I've finished relocating to wilts and can find some indoor space to use I'm gonna take it all apart and make it all new and shiny again bit by bit....

In future I'll be updating this with various bits and pieces I've done

Aidan
