Another pollen filter housing question...Sorry.

Post by jimmy2007 »

Hi everyone, it is now time to attack this on my b5.
Now, every video i have seen is on a B5.5, but my housing is different being a January 1998 car B5.
Anyhow, I will manage to dismantle it one way or another, but any info from anyone who has done it on a B5 will be greatly appreciated.
Apparently I will find 2 gaskets there, one made of foam and the other made of rubber, possibly both destroyed by time.
My questions are:
What do I use for the foam gasket? A straight replacement from dealer?

And as the rubber is discontinued, is it better to replace it with butyl silicone or butyl tape strip?

By butyl tape strip I mean, this one:

Thanks for your help.
