Tailgate problems

Hi guys newbie here so please be gentle..
So I have a 2003 130tdi B5.5 wagon
The tail gate doesn't want to open via the remote or the lever? Just taken then panel off and tested the microswitch under the lever with a multimeter (continuity) and that works.. Ran a 12v power feed to the solenoid and that works too? Oh and the micro switch in the catch is also working as the light goes off when you close it? What else can I do? The passenger carpet is dry also? I don't think it's damp issue.. The only thing is the previous owner took the rear wiper out and replaced it with a bung. So there's now a plug doing nothing.. I'm assuming that plug doesn't need to complete a circuit and is someway combined with the latch?...
Also I accidentally shorted out one of the two 12v power sockets there but it hasn't blown a fuse so that's baffled me? Unless there's a fuse back behind the socket maybe?.
