Changing pads all round and front discs - Advice?

Post by alpenweiss2 »

Hello all.

I need to change the front discs on our 1999 B5 Wagon 1.9 tdi. Also changing the front pads and the rear pads.

I have checked on Autodoc and it seems for my chassis number I need the 288 mm vented front discs. These are the ones:-

My front pads have no wiring for wear indicators so I presume I just need the basic pads for ATE calipers?

I am happy with the process for doing the front discs and pads. For the rear I do have a windback tool as I read in the Haynes that the rear calipers have to be wound back in in a clockwise direction, whilst bleeding fluid out?

It says in Haynes that it is essential to change the slider bolts? Is this really essential?

Also will I definitely have to adjust the handbrake after fitting the new rear pads. Looked at the procedure in Haynes and it looks a bit of a faff?

Any advice?
