Head gasket dilemma

Post by Danamow »

Hi all.

2000 1.9tdi ATJ 185,000m

I'm 99% sure my head gasket has gone.
High pressure in the coolant system and slight loss of coolant, made worse if you drive it harder, no leaks other than the coolant tank overflow when pressurised.

Doesn't overheat.

Diy sniff test showed gas the first time but not second time, but I've been told there not a good test for these engines.

Doesn't smoke and heaters work fine.

Bad vibration when cold, bit better when warmed up.

It's had new tank, cap, radiator both cts and thermostat in the last 18 months.

Vcds not showing any codes etc.

Its in good condition for the year and mileage, had loads spent over the last 3 years and being the last of the early B5 not 5.5 quite rare as well I believe.

It's time to sell due to ulez so...

Is it worth fixing the head gasket to sell it, this could easily run into alot of money, more if other issues show up which they normally do, plus time off the road etc,
or cut my losses and just sell it as is for someone else to fix and save my money?

It's a real head and heart problem.

Any thoughts or advice appreciated. Image
