B5 Boot lock motor replacement

Post by marcus »

Hello

VW Passat B5 Saloon (3B2) 1.8 T Petrol 150 hp / 110 kW Year 2000

I want to replace the boot lock motor as it is seized. Diagnosed as I couldnt open the boot.

I removed the boot liner from the inside by crawling behind the backseats and removing then liner. That allowed me access to pull the lever to open the boot.

Having got it opened, I disconnected the connection from the motor to the lever and having done that - that allows me to use the key to open and close it which restores regular access again.

( But losing the benefit of central locking locking the boot.)

My local VW garage parts depart advised it is this part no 1M0959781A and I have ordered a replacement.

I am hoping to replace it myself however I cant find any videos showing how to replace it.

The tops of screws holding it and facing in towards the boot lid so removing it looks tricky.

I would be grateful for advice on how to replace it efficiently or if this is a garage job.

Thank you!
