Buzzing alternator

Hi,
Hoping for advice regarding 2011 Passat alternator. It was replaced in France, 2 weeks ago, despite my suspicion that the original was fine. There was a large parasitic drain which resulted in flat battery each day. That was later found to be due to a faulty towing module.
However, there is still a small drain - exciter wire has 12 v.even with ignition off. Alternator buzzes but ceases when exciter wire plug is pulled.
Any ideas would be gratefully received
