Possible boost leak?

Been thinking I have a boost leak for a while now.

I'm getting a loud turbo whistle, loads of black smoke under acceleration and terrible mpg around town.

What's the best way of checking, would a scan show up any fault?

I have had a look in the engine bay and all my pipes do look fine.
