B^ chrome molding removal tips?

Whats the best way to remove the chrome moldings? towards the bottom of the doors, bumper and tailgate? I want to wrap them in black gloss vinyl, I was to black them but don't want to paint them really, unless someone can point out why paint would be advantageous? do I need a specific tool to do so? are they stuck or clipped on?
