Gearbox issue

Hi All,
Hopefully you'll be able to offer me some advice. Over the past few days, its becoming increasingly difficult to put the car into gear. I initally thought it may be the clutch, but after speaking to VW, they think its not.
It is the same challenge where ever the clutch is, either fully down or 3/4 down and I find its easier to change gear when the car / engine is cold.
Your help and advice would be gratefully appreciated as I don't quite have the £1400 VW want to replace the cluth and flywheel......
