What engine would people recommend?

Apologies in advance if this question has been asked time and time again.

Should hopefully be getting a passat very soon but just after people's opinions and experiences with the variety of engines.

Currently swaying towards the cr engine as from what I understand most of the faults with the pd engines have been eliminated?
