Glow plug light illuminated workshop now warning

Hi all,
Took the wife's car out today, as she said she had a fault light illuminated about a mile and a half from home. The car is a Passat Trend line 140 2009 101,000 miles on the clock. Has anyone any idea what the fault could be? I am frightened to try anything myself as I am used to old school stuff. Checking oil levels and coolant. After that forget it I have to pay for it.
