wierd tick over

Hi guys i seem to be having a weird tick over problem
It started doing this about 12month ago and gradually got worse
What it does is tick over raises to approx 1000rpm runs lumpy and stinks a bit of diesel
Someone mentioned it could be dpf regens but no light on dash telling me that if it has one
Car is a 2009 model passat highline saloon
Any help please

P.s. Is there a good dpf recommended cleaner or a static regeneration i can do i have vagcom
