passat b6 airbag light on

Hi, the airbag warning light is on our passat and had it diagnosed as the passanger seat airbag.

The garage says it needs a new airbag but reading online a few people have had problems with the wiring so before getting the airbag replaced I thought I would give the connectors a bit of a clean with some contact cleaner and look for anything obvious.

My question is after doing this and putting it back together should the light go off if it's now ok or will the codes need clearing off first?
