Handbrake not releasing? - and other faults after

[Raf Welsh Passat]

Hi all.
My mate Just phoned me about his Passat CC 2.0TDI the 09 plate.
About an hour ago he was going to jump in a car, and go somewhere.
He said thatmhe could start the car, put on drive (it's a DSG one) and handbrake button seem not to react to trying switch it off.
He tried it over and kver again, food on brake etc. etc.
It was showing SET button, but no massages.
He searched in his manual book, and he managed to reset esp, that made handbrake work, but now hanbrake icon is flashing, and other faults keeps comimg on and off, I don't know what faults.

Thought if someone had any similar issue, any help would he much appreciated.
