Loud bang then this fell off rear end

Just drove over a very mild speed bump at around 5mph and heard an almighty bang in the back and this rubber thing fell off in road. 
I'm guessing the rear end suspension has snapped. Maybe the shock and spring has snapped. It made terrible noises as i reversed back into my parking speck. Is it safe to drive to a garage or should i get it on a low loader to garage? I cant even get underneath to look at it. The wheel arch is virtually touching the back tyres.
I wouldnt mind but I've been off all last week and the car has just been sitting there doing nothing. Its happened just as I'm about to go back to work.
