Wireless key problem

Posted a while back in another thread about trying to “re code” a key when it won’t open or close.
Had to do it on my B6 last night when my remote seemed to do nothing. That key now functions as expected (it was a spare I bought and had coded a while back)
This post is regarding the original(?) key I got with the car. No problems with starting the car with it as the immobiliser chip is fine but it won’t open or close the doors remotely.
I’ve tried changing the battery and the “recode” procedure I know and still no joy.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get this working including if it can be done with VCDS?
